Turbo City Air Intake

Intake and Filter
Turbo City Rock-It Air Intake and K&N Filter
There are plenty of pros and cons about modifying your air intake and installing a K&N filter. I'm not about to enter that discussion here. For me it was all about making room for the Kilby onboard air compressor. The stock air intake had to go. Some folks will be happy just to cut the stock intake and jam the K&N filter on the end. Not me.

This whole project should only take a few minutes and a single screwdriver. Pull the CCV hose off the stock intake, but leave it connected to the valve cover. Remove the stock intake clamps at the throttle body and the flex fitting that connects to the filter box.

Following the instructions that came with the intake, I use carb cleaner on the rubber adapter that mounts on the throttle body. You can't see the film on it, but trust me, you need to clean it. And inspect and clean the inside of the intake tube, but be careful not to use anything that will damage the painted finish.

Slip the adapter onto the throttle body and tighten it. But not too tight. Look at your throttle cable where it comes across the valve cover. It should be snapped into a plastic channel to hold it in place. The leg of the intake will go there, so pop it out. Slip the intake tube into the adapter and the leg should go right where the throttle cable was. You can reposition the throttle cable as you see fit. I just brought mine forward so the intake holds it in place.

Prefilter
Prefilter from Outerwears.
There are many discussions over the merits of the K&N filters on many discussion boards on the internet. Most argue, and I agree, that you need a prefilter to capture fine dust. This is especially true for those of us that live in the southwestern U.S. where its dry and dusty.

I found a review for Outerwears prefilter in one of the many trade rags that come across my desk. Its waterproof and does a good job on small particles. The review was quite positive, so I ordered one.
