Bulletproof Rear Bumper

 Page 6 - Mounting July, 2002

Got a floor jack? It would be a good idea. I borrowed one from the neighbor, laid a broad, flat piece of wood across it and wheeled it under the fuel tank. Bring the jack up to take on the weight of the fuel tank.

There are 2 distinct types of studs and nuts visible at the back edge of the fuel tank. Do not remove the nuts from the long studs. They are probably covered by a plastic sleeve. Remove the nuts from the short studs (circled in red in the figures).

Although the installation instructions from Bulletproof say to only remove the rear nuts, I had to remove 3 more of the same size nuts along the forward edge of the tank. Once all of the nuts were off, I could lower the fuel tank slowly, just enough to clear the studs that held it in place. Watch the fuel lines as you lower the tank and then move the tank to the left or right enough to get a socket and long (really long) extension on the bolt that goes through to the bumper.
