Where can I take my Jeep?

Got Trails? - Ever search the web for places to take your Jeep? I have. There are hundreds of "trip reports" out there. The problem with most of them is that they assume you know where the trial is. Mostly, they're a journal of someone else's fun. I am not all that interested in reading 6 pages about how you all managed to get over the same big boulder. I just want to know where it is and what to expect on the trail.

The trail reviews posted here, with few exceptions, are all about how to find the trail and what to expect on the trail. I've added some GPS points where they might be useful. I live in Los Angeles, so most of the trails will be in that general area.

Black Gulch Trail Black Gulch Trail / Kern River - Sequoia National Forest

There are some trails further back that, according to my chat with a local, do get difficult. The Kern River and Lake Isabella area offer good camping, boating and fishing. If you are already planning a trip to that area, this trail is worth a look.

Rowher Flats Lookout Trail / Rowher Flats - Angeles National Forest

While the Rowher Trail runs up and over the mountain, Lookout Trail just goes up one side. It meets Rowher Trail at the top.

Miller Jeep Trail Lockwood Creek / Miller Jeep Trail - Los Padres National Forest

This is one of the tougher trails I've run around Los Angeles. This is an all day adventure that goes up and down the mountains from Frazier Park to Hungry Valley. Most of the trail is not hard, but the final ascent is.

Hungry Valley S.V.R.A. 4x4 Training Area - Hungry Valley S.V.R.A.

We all have to start somewhere, and if you're just getting started, this is the place to go. Not just for this training area, but the rest of the trails, too. There are lots of easy and moderate trails that will help build your skills and confidence. There are campsites and clean restrooms, too.

Rowher Trail Rowher Trail / Angeles National Forest

This is another fun trail that has some real challenges depending on the direction you run. Entering from Bouquet Canyon is a challenge. Alternatively, you can enter on the Lookout Trail side by Rowher Flats.

Palo Duro Jeep Jamboree Jeep Jamboree / 15th Palo Duro

Held in the Palo Duro canoyon near Amarillo, Texas this is a set of moderate trails in a beautiful canyon. The cowboy breakfast was good, the steak dinner was even better. The trail guides were fun and friendly and the trails were challenging at all levels.
